A sales pitch for her other book
I was disappointed in the book. it was more like a sales pitch for her lettering handbook. She only showed one style of lettering, faux calligraphy. I do several styles of calligraphy and again I was disappointed. I believe that she would have been better off putting all of her content into one book. It sort of felt like a rip-off to me. She also did not explain how much money can be made with calligraphy. I made thousands of dollars with adapting my calligraphy to woodworking and doing calligraphy with a motorized router. I made $20K at one Christmas season in the mall selling children's stools and coatracks with their names carved into the wood. So if you adapt you can make a full time living with this skill which she did not bring up.The reviewer is the author of the Kindle book entitled: SEX EDUCATION FOR ADULTS SECRETS TO AMAZING SEX AND HAPPILY EVER AFTER TOO. (it is Bible based)The best review on the book is by a licensed marriage counselor who credits the book for saving his marriage. It is on the AASECT recommended reading list on their site (American Assn of Sexual Educators, Counselors and Therapists)I was recently offered a TEDX talk on the bookMy book took first place in the International Book Excellence Awards contest in my category marriage. As a result of the book, I was contacted by the Senior Editor of The International Journal of Psychology and Neuroscience to write articles for them

A Truly Fun and Easy to Follow Guide for Beginners
The habitually curious creative in me has always wanted to learn calligraphy but never carved out the time for classes, and self-study seemed boring to do alone.Part of me worried I'd fall in love and get lost in making beautiful calligraphy things…at the expense of other more practical pursuits, and that I’d spend too much money on supplies. Over the last 40 years I'd already given up sewing, watercolor painting, knitting, crochet, decorative embroidery, needlepoint, rug hooking, sold my horse, and basically whittled my hobbies down to just one that is fun but pretty time-consuming - community theater. But I never lost the desire to learn more about the basics of writing in calligraphy.Faux calligraphy? Who knew? What a brilliant concept!Reading Shelley’s book I learned right away that I already had all the supplies I needed to start. She made learning the basics of modern calligraphy, her terrific “faux” version of it, so easy and simple to understand. Once Shelley addressed it, I realized that I _had_ been thinking of calligraphy as a form of handwriting and not giving it its rightful place in my mindset as an art form.Surprisingly, embracing that concept helped me get over my worry up doing it wrong. In fact, I got so drawn into reading her book and how easy she made following along that I grabbed a pen and paper and did just that. See my photo for proof. :)Getting free access to her online course (invitation and URL is in the book) was a surprise and welcome bonus.I also enjoyed the many photo examples towards the end of the book how others were putting their calligraphy skills to good and profitable use.One last note: Okay, so I knew going in that this book by Shelley Hinz was likely going to promote her services, other products, or advanced courses. But the truth is I didn't mind. I had fun reading her book and I can see myself referring back to it when I’m in a creative mood … or those odd situations when I’m responsible for providing Certificates of Achievement or playful party invitations. I’ll be recommending her book to others, too.

Think you can't? Bet you can Faux it! :)
This book is awesome for people who have a passion for pretty lettering.... buuuuuut sort of lack the skill or muscle memory that it takes to do it the original way. I felt super cool being able to write stuff out on cards and gift tags, without the dang feeling the the upstorke was too this or that haha. Faux calligraphy is incredibly fun!! I've bought several other calligraphy books and this one in particular feels like an awesome addition to the mix, it includes videos and it is incredibly easy to follow, I loved it! (will update and add photo once I find the tags amongst my messy craft space haha)(I did receive a copy for review, but these are my own thoughts and feelings on the books content, and my own experience with faux calligraphy)

I love drawing letters
I love drawing letters, I do it on my knee anywhere I go. My husband even says STOP Writing! :) Now, I've watched Shelley do Calligraphy on Facebook and she does it amazingly easily. That couldn't be me! BUT -- I really think I can do this. I have downloaded the book, now the free worksheet, and just tried a few letters and had to race back here to write this. You don't need a fancy dancy calligraphy pen and this is really relatively simple to do -- with practice!Seriously debated on purchasing yet another book I don't have time for... but WOW! So Impressed! Kudos to Shelley for an exciting book!

Fire 🔥Reignited
I used to love calligraphy and watercolor art in middle and high school. ☺ However, I got married, had kids and unfortunately got divorced. Post-divorce , I have been rediscovering myself for the past 14 months. I got notification of this book as a result of reading Shelley's other book, 'Broken Crayons Still Color'. The minute I saw the cover, a fire reignited within my soul for hand lettering. After reading 📚 reading through the book, I'm overwhelmed with creative inspiration to follow-up on a childhood dream.😇 Thank you Shelley Hitz!!!!

point pen) and little did I know that "faux" calligraphy would be the perfect segue into this new adventure of mine
I have been delving into different types of hand lettering and calligraphy (chalk, brush, watercolor, point pen) and little did I know that "faux" calligraphy would be the perfect segue into this new adventure of mine. The author (Shelley Hitz) really does a great job of teaching how to go about this wonderful medium of calligraphy for beginners. Her enthusiasm, passion and knowledge has really aided in my learning this beautiful and relaxing art. I highly recommend this book as a first step for all beginners wanting to learn calligraphy.

Not much is given away in this kindle book. Just want you to keep clicking on links all the time. I’ll look for something more comprehensive.

Helpful for new beginner
I would have liked more direct letters to see in the book without having to go to the website. A kindle fire only has wifi and in hospital this isn't available. I imagine it would be the same if you were traveling perhaps

This could be your "in" to creativity
A great introduction to getting started with calligraphy. In fact, if you find painting or any of the other creative arts a little daunting, this could be your "in."

A simple guide.
This book takes the mystery out of calligraphy and provides a simplified version which looks surprisingly professional. I can see lots of uses for this and recommend it as a confidence- builder for anyone interested in the subject but not knowing where to start.
