Ulu Factory Ulu Bowl set Birch Handle AK Cutlery

I was trying to come up with a thoughtful gift for my husband, since he usually just buys whatever he wants. I remembered he kept talking about a blade that he really liked using for cooking while living in Italy that was called a "half moon blade". I looked and looked for something called that and this was my best guess. He opened his present and said it was wrong. :( He was talking about a mezzaluna blade. But since then I have decided that this blade/board set is still awesome. The bowl part fits perfectly with the blade and makes chopping easier. I've been able to cut up chocolate from a bar into the tiniest bits, finely chop onions.... Anyways, I am keeping this Ulu set for myself-- I don't regret buying this at all. However, I have learned that it's not a great idea to wash the board and close it away in my cupboard. A little bit of mold grew on the wood, but that's my own fault.

We purchased a similar knife for one of our sons in Juneau and decided to buy them for the rest of them when we got to Ketchikan. Although the box looked similar, they were not made in Alaska. We found these on Amazon and had them shipped home. Turns out that the handle was thicker and the blade a bit sturdier on this one than the one we purchased for the first gift so we ordered another one here. All the adult men in the family loved the gift and can’t wait to try it.

I bought this for my husband and it was perfect. It has information on had to use it, hold it and take care of it. So it last a life time. Works great and is very sharp. The cutting board is beautiful and works great with cutting. Love the dip in the board, It makes it easier to cut fruit and vegetables.

Beautiful wood bowl and separate stand for ulu knife. Have old knife bit not lovely curved bowl and can't wait to try together with new sharp knife!

I love this ulu and bowl set. Ever since I saw one on Life Below Zero I'd wanted one. Because of the way you hold the ulu it puts less pressure on my wrist when chopping foods. The bowl is great for finely chopping things like garlic and onions. I use this practically every day! It's easy to clean and solid. It'll hold up for years to come!

This is definitely a good knife, and a good matching cutting board/bowl. The knife stand is next to worthless, as it leaves a very sharp blade exposed. I would give it 5 stars, except... WARNING: This is a VERY SHARP KNIFE, sharper than any knife I've ever used except for surgical scalpels. DO NOT TEST ITS SHARPNESS WITH YOUR FINGER!! Even just a slight, glancing touch will cut you, and could easily cut you deeply. WARNING 2: The knife comes COMPLETELY UNPROTECTED in the box, and is therefore DANGEROUS as soon as you open the package. There is NO plastic sharp edge protector like on many new knives. The entire sharp edge is exposed! And if you happen to touch it with your fingers or hand, even accidentally (easy to do), it WILL CUT YOU! Take it out of the box CAREFULLY, and be very careful where you set it down, and where you store it. If you have kids, be extremely, very, very careful!! MY RECOMMENDATION: Do NOT think of this as a $40 knife and bowl set. It is extremely dangerous to leave in the kitchen, and the knife stand that comes with it leaves sharp blade exposed on both sides. It will only have some measure of safety if you also purchase the SHEATH, which is about $20 on Amazon. So think of it as a $60 investment, and buy the sheath too. Or, look for a set from this manufacturer that includes the sheath, the knife, and the bowl. It's a great help in the kitchen, and works very well, but I would strongly advise against buying this knife unless you also purchase the sheath.

Love this product from Ulu. Use it everyday. I have had this for about 18 months and just ordered one for my daughter. The knife is very sharp (even after 18 months). The bowl part of the board keeps what you are chopping/mincing from scattering all over the counter, plus you have a lot more control cutting than using a regular chopper. Great price and value as well. Glad to see this was from the Ulu Factory in Alaska.

I love, love, love this kitchen tool. The Ulu knife and bowl makes it so easy to chop vegetables, eggs, and so many other foods. For example, celery is a breeze to chop and I can chop it course or fine in seconds. I like this better than just using a large knife and cutting board because the design gives me more leverage. I like it better than chopper because the food stays in the curved bowl and scrapes out easily. Plus, it is easy to wash and put away. This is my go-to gift for weddings.
