Does it have those other items in it?

It does come with very poor examples of what you might put in it. You will definitely be putting your own kit into the capsule. The capsule itself is great definitely would recommend it if that is the sort of thing you are looking for. However, the stuff it comes with you will probably throw out and put in some more serious items of good quality. I keep two days of medications in it and there is still plenty of room for loads more stuff. I haven't decided what else I will put into the capsule.

Would this work as a geocache storage?

As a geocache capsule...probably not so much. It is made out of anodized aluminum, so that would be your limiting factor in regards to time and environment.

Is this tsa friendly? can i bring it on a plane as a carry on?

this is from a website that answered the question of matches: You cannot pack any type of matches in checked luggage. You cannot pack strike-anywhere matches in hand luggage or hold luggage. The only matches that you are permitted to bring when flying are safety matches. You must pack them in your carry-on or have them in your pocket. As for size, you can bring one book, packet, or box of safety matches. This case has a special striking surface for those matches that require such a surface (i.e. NOT "strike anywhere" matches). I would think that because the matches are contained in a METAL CONTAINER if anything they would be safer than in a paper box, but you still might have TSA inspect the case when you check in.

Will this hold a thumb drive?

Depending on the bulkyness of your drive yes it will. I personally use mine to hold a roll of my emergency cash. Works really well for that.
