The durable, Chain Drive 550 garage door opener is also made with a heavy duty chain for many years of reliable operation Review: Excellent Value and Quality - I bought this to replace a 15 year old Craftsman opener. I could not be more pleased with the purchase. It was very easy to install. The directions were very clear and the parts for each step were in color coded bags to make them easy to find. The unit only weighs 20 pounds or so, so it was not difficult to handle by myself. I was dreading the hook up for the infrared safety monitors to reverse the door if something breaks the beam. There were a nightmare to install on my previous one. I was very happy at how simple they were to install and they work flawlessly without any need to keep adjusting them. The chain was a little tricky do do by myself only because it wants to fall off of the sprocket until you tension it a bit. It would have ben much easier if I had another set of hands to help. All of the remotes and the wireless keypad are preset to the opener so there is no need to "program" those. Another thing that was very easy to do was to set the door travel. In my old one, there were knobs that had to be turned with a screwdriver and it was a lot of trial and error. With the new one, it's as simple as holding down a button and releasing it when you have the desired up/down travel. Very simple. The opener itself is very smooth and quiet. With my old opener, you could definitely hear (and feel) when it was opening or closing in my dining room right above the garage. With my Genie, you can barely hear it and don't feel it vibrating in the floor at all. If you want just a basic garage door opener and don't need it to connect to your phone, this is a great unit. For $158 (As of 8/10/26) you get a package that includes the wireless keypad. Many of the other ones I looked at were as or more expensive and did not include this. I would definitely recommend this item. Review: Good purchase - Easy install. Quiet motor/chain. Solid value at the price point. ## Features - RELIABLE, DURABLE OPERATION: The Genie Chain Drive 550 garage door opener has a heavy-duty chain drive system that allows for long-lasting durable operation - EASY TO INSTALL: The Chain Drive 550 garage door opener is equipped with a strong 5-piece rail system that easily snaps together with no added hardware required. The remotes and keypad work through 315/390 MHz which is similar to that of a television remote. No Wifi or bluetooth, or internet for that matter is required. **Q: Is the steel rail included?** A: Yes all you need is included...motor, rail, and two nice remotes and remote for outside too! We have bought two of these and they are soooo quiet! **Q: Does installation of the Gene 550 chaindrive garge door opener include installing the keypad and control?** A: Yes. I left my old wires in place and used them. I did not use the new wires in the box. The keypad was easier to set than most I have set in the past. I love this garage door opener it is very smooth and quiet. **Q: I have one sensor green one sensor red. I swapped them to see if that would work but still the same thing Any other reason why this would be happening** A: You should have one sensor with solid red and other with solid Green light. If the red one blinks, please check if something is blocking your doorway and also check the wiring. If there is no lights on both sensors, please contact customer service at 1.800-354-3643. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Value and Quality *by D***N on August 13, 2026* I bought this to replace a 15 year old Craftsman opener. Solid value at the price point. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very impressed *by D***J on April 19, 2026* This was a replacement for a 1990 vintage opener. I'm dumbstruck by how quiet this is. You can barely hear the opener itself. Even with the chain drive this is whisper quiet. Way quieter than even my own 2005 screw unit. The instructions are very good. You can even download the BILT app which has the same instructions presented in a 3d environment where you can pan and zoom around the hardware for each step, pretty cool. This was installed on an aluminum double wide door that's painted on the outside and has insulation on the inside. Handles it completely fine assuming your door springs are adjusted to the proper tension. The included wire does have a white side and a white/black side unlike what's been said in other reviews. There are instructions for reversing the release mechanism in the extremely rare case that you would need to, unlike what's been said in other reviews. Setting the opening and closing limits is easy as can be. Just be careful programming the down limit as you can put so much pressure on it that the rail will deflect/bow. Only go down until your bottom seal compresses slightly and the rail is still straight. The rail length is a little shorter than some older openers. I was able to use the included angle iron strips to connect into the existing mounting angle iron mounts coming down from the ceiling. No repositioning of mounts necessary. The remotes are pre programmed and it's easy to program a new code into the outside wall mount remote. I also programmed a homelink car built-in remote with no trouble. Overall this thing works perfectly, is impressively quiet, and is easy to set up and program. I'm thoroughly impressed with it, especially considering that it is on the lower end in terms of price. ## Frequently Bought Together - Genie Chain Drive 550 Garage Door Opener, Heavy Duty Chain Drive Opener, Model 2035-TKO - Genie EKTC 8ft Chain Drive Garage Door Opener Extension Kit for Genie Tube Style Chain Rails, Metallic - Garage Door Opener Hanging Kit, Galvanized Steel, Installation Screws Included, Compatible with Most Popular Brands --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/102317312-chain-drive-550-garage-door-opener-heavy-duty-chain-drive](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/102317312-chain-drive-550-garage-door-opener-heavy-duty-chain-drive) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-11-05*
