Book 3 : The Boy Who Flew With Dragons

Tomas has made a promise to Grandad but he really, really, really doesn't want to keep his promise! He has to tell his friends that it involves them too - they all have to give up their dragons by setting them free... When Halloween turns out to be scarier than it should've been, they realise that maybe giving up the dragons might be the best thing. But where should they take them? Has keeping them mucked up the natural order of things? Tomas goes back to a map he had found in Grandad's shed. A magical looking map, tucked in an old book left there by the previous shed owner. Could this be the dragon's real home? More investigations in the shed reveal the old owner knew all about the dragons and where they came from. Her diaries fascinate the four friends as they go over them. Someone else is keen to learn more too. None other than Tomas' worst enemy - Liam. Liam has something more special than all of the dragons put together, but he doesn't know it. He also doesn't know the havoc and destruction that is possible, and when Tomas uncovers this in the notes and journals hidden in Grandad's shed, he knows he has to warn Liam! A fantastic, thrilling ending to this fun series! Tomas not only has a secret from Grandad, he has also lied to his friends. He feels truly awful but when he discovers new information about the dragons he's worried that he's made a terrible mistake! This series has been fast paced, exciting, funny & heartwarming. It made me smile, fear for the characters and whole heartedly wish I had a little dragon of my own (hence, since starting this series I’ve never looked at dragonfruit the same way ever again!) a fitting end to a remarkable trilogy. Highly recommended to everyone who loves dragons! A stupendous 5⭐️ read and a heartfelt thank-you to Andy Shepherd for introducing us to this amazing world of dragons.

I'm a HUGE fan of Andy Shepherd's fabulous trilogy of The Boy Who.... books but this final book surpassed all my expectations in it's humour, warmth and emotion. Here again we find the Superhero Squad, of Tomas and his friends, caring for their precious and unique pet dragons . However, this time the dragons are getting older and bolder and are not so easily hidden or contained! There's still the issue of enemy Liam and his super -sizing dragon and now Tomas has his livewire little sister Lolli pestering for her own dragon too. Add to that the constant guilt Tomas feels fibbing to his poorly beloved Grandad about plans to set the dragons free and you have the makings of an action packed finale! The scenes where the mischievious band of dragons create mayhem are hilarious and joyful;full of fun and laugh out loud moments. There are brilliantly written scenes of raucous,chaotic behaviour and mishaps. My favourite moments,however, are the tender,quiet moments with Tomas and Flicker that are so gently and movingly written. Who knew dragons could move you to tears! I adored this book and the whole trilogy and look forward to re-reading them again and again in school. 1

An excellent read for kids of all ages including those in their 30s and beyond. Recommend this book to anyone who dreams of dragons

I'm reading these with my 7 year old and she really enjoys the series. They are fun, funny and creative. I was a bit worried about potty humor because she is not a fan, but in these books it is used as a funny surprise tactic rather than an end to itself. The bond between the brother and sister is very special, as well as the relationship between the son and grandfather. A fun, family friendly book for sure.
