Black Lava Rock
I initially purchased this rock years ago to us in a bonsai but couldn't decide which plant I wanted so it sat on my potting bench for a year or two. Just recently I needed to re-pot a Christmas Cactus so I used the lava rock as part of the filler soil and spread the leftover on top. It works well for drainage and looks good as well. This purchase is for re-potting my plants in the future.

Perfect for Aquarium Tanks
I bought this to be the primary base for a new planted aquarium. Have to say the granules were the perfect size for a 15 gallon tank. Added some premium aquarium soil and clay on top of that and it came out really nice and clear on the first cycle. For any other aquarium person here, yes lava rock or pumice are perfect for tanks as they help lower ph and keep the good bacteria thriving. Also not only that, but the holes in the lava rock are airy and provide a good place for plants to grow.

Homogeneous size, sturdy packaging, my plants are happy
Homogenous size, porous but well draining, came in a sturdy resealable bag, and looks great. I was surprised that there was virtually no dust, so K didn’t have to do any extra washing and sifting. I am quite happy with this purchase. I am using lava rocks primariky for a fully inorganic substrate for my haworthias and mesembs, but it looks like it would work well mixed into soil or as top dressing as well. Will come again when I have more plants in need of potting or repotting.

Lava rock looks great, sized right to start a bonsai.
The lava rock has a nice deep color that gives a clean look. The rocks are almost uniformly shaped without being uniformly shaped. Works good for a small starting bonsai setup.

quality product just as described
Great for drainage for my bonsai, especially during the Florida rainy season. The lava rock is of good particle size, with a mix of about 1/4 inch to some over 3/8 inches. There is very little dust in the bag, so I assume it was sifted prior to packaging. I'm curious to try this for orchids since lava rock won't break down like moss and bark do. The bag was a good size, too, maybe 2.5-3 quarts.

The perfect size for succulents!
Been searching a while now for black lava rock that comes in smaller pieces to use as a soil additive for my miniature succulents. This is exactly what I was looking for! Yes it seems a bit pricey for how much you get, however I’m only using a small amount at a time, so it should last a while…and the bag was completely full to the top, no wasted airspace. Very satisfied and will be back for more!
