Super comfortable!
Perfect pencil for people who death-grip while they write. My hand doesn't cramp as quick when writing with this pencil and the soft grip helps to keep my fingers in place. The eraser the pencil comes with is pretty good too. I think the pencil feels sturdy enough, it'll definitely last me multiple semesters! I write very hard and the lead hasn't broken inside the pencil tip yet! Such an improvement from my Papermate Clear Points. If you were disappointed with those, you'll probably like these! I do wish these came in cuter colors :(

Comfortable grip and reliable writing, but not the most durable option
I picked up this 0.7mm mechanical pencil mainly because I wanted something comfortable for longer writing sessions. I do a lot of note-taking and marking, and I was getting tired of slimmer pencils that start to feel uncomfortable after a while. I travel fairly often too, so I wanted something simple and reliable that I could toss in a bag and use anywhere. My expectation was a pencil with a better grip and smooth writing, nothing overly complicated. First thing I noticed is the grip—it’s definitely the standout feature. The rubber grip is thicker than most standard mechanical pencils, and it feels softer in hand. It makes a noticeable difference when writing for extended periods. I didn’t feel the usual finger fatigue I get with thinner pencils, which is a big plus if you write a lot in one sitting. The 0.7mm lead size is pretty practical. It’s a good middle ground—thicker than 0.5mm, so it doesn’t break as easily, but still fine enough for clean, readable writing. I’ve been using it for general note-taking, marking papers, and quick edits, and it handles all of that without any issues. The writing feels smooth and consistent, and the lead advances without problems. Another thing I like is the overall balance. It’s lightweight but not too light, so it doesn’t feel flimsy when you’re using it. The clear gray design is simple and functional—nothing flashy, but it looks clean and professional enough for everyday use. That said, there are a few downsides. The main one is durability. The plastic body feels a bit on the lighter side, and while it’s fine for regular desk use, I wouldn’t fully trust it to hold up if you’re rough with it or constantly carrying it around in a packed bag. It hasn’t broken on me, but it doesn’t feel as sturdy as some higher-end pencils. The eraser is decent for small corrections, but it’s not something you’d want to rely on for larger edits. It wears down fairly quickly, which seems to be common with built-in erasers. I still find myself reaching for a separate eraser for anything more than quick fixes. From a practical standpoint, this pencil works well for everyday tasks—writing notes, grading, editing, or even light sketching. It’s especially useful if comfort is a priority, since the grip really does make a difference over time. In terms of value, I think it’s reasonably priced for what you get. The comfort and usability are there, even if the build isn’t the most robust. Overall, this met my expectations. I wanted a comfortable, easy-to-use pencil for daily writing, and that’s exactly what this provides. The trade-off is durability, but for regular use, it does the job well.

Expensive but so worth it!
I am a writer and I prefer to write first by hand with a pencil. I am so happy with this #9 Sakura SumoGrip mechanical pencil! It's comfortable to use. The eraser is quality and will actually erase and not leave a black smear. The lead is of excellent quality and does not easily brake, plus it slides easily into place. Highly recommend!

Simple solid pencil
I wasn’t expecting much but it’s become one of my favorites. The retractable tip, light weight and general durability makes it a great travel pencil. I have sensitive fingers so the grip is also a life saver!

You will appreciate this mechanical pencil. User friendly!
Best, most comfortable to hold mechanical pencil ever. I like the 0.9 -mm graphite…doesn’t break as easily. Glides across paper easily, my hand and fingers don’t hurt when writing a lot. Also the fat barrel keeps my hand from cramping. I ordered another one. Good value for money, nicely designed.

Great Mechanical Pencil with some girth
Needed to come back and re=write my earlier review. Could not find earlier review to edit........... MP is tad longer in length when measuring- 5 1/2 inches and what I like is its girth, somewhat similar to a Pilot Mr. Grip. The rubber grip is nice and firm, I do not see getting sticky over time like the Mr. Grip, etc. The twist out large eraser is easy to twist out and retract, holds a lot of lead- Pilot Graphite Neox being my favorite, balanced. Nothing super spectacular..............it functions as designed and is priced right.

Very comfortable, great eraser
First off, I am just a fan of writing implements. I enjoy both writing and drawing with a variety of pens and pencils. This one certainly fit the bill so much so that I have ordered each of the lead diameters offered and am on the lookout for the eraser refills. The grip is triangular which both stops it from rolling on your desk if it's tilted and offers a very natural hand gesture for drawing especially. The fact that the twist-up eraser is a real bonus for me is that it is exposed like a traditional pencil. No fiddly eraser cap to hold onto or drop and never find again. The eraser is simply there to use whenever with a flip of the pencil. Great for technical drawing! I don't know what the internal mechanism is, but I haven't experienced any lead breakage. Also, you can manually press the eraser and depress the lead back into the pencil for travel or storage. That was a great feature for me, an old habit from the ancient days of drafting. You can bet I will be enjoying this line with many future refills!

Love it!
I love this pencil. My son brought one home from school, and letbme use it. I immediately came to Amazon to order myself one. It's thick and easy to grip onto. Writes smoothly. Easily the best mechanical pencil I've used.

Japanese excellence
As a Montblanc 149 fountain pen user , my general preference towards writing instruments is girthy grip and robust yet light body . Since i hate ball point pens , so as an alternative i chose to write with pencil . But almost all brands have disappointed me except pilot , and sakura. Pilot is though fabulous yet on the costlier side , while SAKURA SUMO grip meets all my criteria, a fat girthy grip with a robust featherlight body has resulted into excellent ergonomics . I am eager to get my next sakura , and will request the seller to bring more colour variations.

Good pencil but WAY overpriced
Be warned - exactly the same pencil design by the manufactuer is being sold at a far lower price in the UK on the Amazon website - just of a different color (transparent white instead of blue)
