Can We Talk?
It’s past time for the Black Church to have open, candid dialogue about sex and sexuality. Kelly Brown Douglas calls us into urgent, conscious dialogue, and out of denial about the ways White Culture continues to create false narratives around the beauty of Black bodies, and our need for passion.I highlighted so much of this book that my pages are discolored! Her references are rich and Her arguments are so thought provoking, readers mindsets are transformed into an African centered understanding of what it means to truly love one’s self, as well as experience authentic love from others.Brown Douglas challenges our hypocrisy around rejecting our LGBTQIA brothers and sisters, and sheds light on the ways the church has historically and contemporarily caused injury to our siblings based on our ill informed understanding of sexuality.Read this book, then host open dialogue sessions with your family, friends, and church, so we can all grow and heal.

Inspiring Read
Great book on human sexuality and its impact on African Americans. The book addresses homophobia in the Black Church and from a spiritual viewpoint how it should be addressed.

Phenomenal Resource
A phenomenal resource for anyone ministering with the black church or interested in black liberationist/womanist theology. Often the issue of sexuality is completely abandoned in these conversations, but Douglas offers a helpful analysis of the exploitation of the black communities sexuality and the consequential effects. Definitely recommend.

Sexuality and the Black Church
We love God, because God is not made with hands. Our spirituality is the sure hope and expectation longed for but not yet come into reality. The ones that runs the Church should read this book, I am sure you will appreciate the Black women even more than you did before.Thank you

This book was recommended to me! It is a great read and will cause you reconsider everything you think you know about the bible and sexuality. Most amazing to me, was how long ago it was written.

An deeply thoughtful and important challenge to Black Majority Chuches
Kelly Brown Douglas carefully explores the historical systematic distortion and pollution of Black identity and Black sexuality. Brown Douglas also challenges us to reclaim ourselves and our sexualities. It’s time for us all to claim a sex positive Womanist theology.
